It is a unique occasion to take a stand against a problem that affects us all. On June 26, FoRUT-SL, in collaboration with 5 Children and Young People’s (CYPs) Clubs, commemorated the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The event drew attention of stakeholders on the dangers associated with illicit drug use. FoRUT also raised awareness of two important world issues – World Drug Day and the Blue Heart Campaign against Human Trafficking.

The event was held to remind the public of the effects of drugs in schools, local communities and ways to help address illicit drugs use among school going pupils.  As part from the event, FoRUT continues to hold public sanitization and awareness campaigns  by encouraging the public to participate in the fight against drug and alcohol abuse and misuse.

From the dangerous effects of cannabis to the prevention of HIV/AIDS and needle sharing,  FoRUT continues to engage the public through awareness raising campaigns, radio phone in discussion programs etc. In the fight against drugs and alcohol, FoRUT believes that more information needs to available in the public and people should not be complacent  about the harm they cause in our society.

FoRUT-Sierra Leone  has established 49 (CYP) clubs in it operational areas of (Freetown, Moyamba and Port Loko) conducting peer education campaigns. In each school, CYP Focal Persons (FCs) undertake guidance and counseling meetings for children on harmful effects of alcohol and drug abuse. FCs also receive capacity building in form of trainings to enable them function well in their various schools. FoRUT also provides educational materials to (FCs) to raise awareness about alcohol and drugs abuse and its effects on our communities and society as a whole.

With your support; FoRUT believes that together we can continue to save more life today and our future generation. Please donate what little you can for our brothers and sisters who need help in their own personal journey against alcohol and drugs.
